Ανακοινώθηκαν οι υποψηφιότητες των φετινών βραβείων βραβείων Όσκαρ, με το The Power of the Dog του Netflix να προηγείται με 12 υποψηφιότητες, συμπεριλαμβανομένης της Καλύτερης Ταινίας, Καλύτερης Σκηνοθεσίας για τη Jane Campion (η οποία έγραψε ιστορία αφού είναι η πρώτη γυναίκα στην ιστορία της Ακαδημίας που έλαβε υποψηφιότητα περισσότερες από μία φορές για την κατηγορία της Καλύτερης Ταινίας), όπως και υποψηφιότητες στις κατηγορίες των ηθοποιών για τους πρωταγωνιστές Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons και Kodi Smit-McPhee.
Ακολουθεί το Dune με δε΄κα υποψηφιότητες, το West Side Story, του Steven Spielberg και το Belfast του Kenneth Branagh κέρδισαν επτά υποψηφιότητες, ενώ ο King Richard είναι υποψήφιος σε έξι κατηγορίες. Οι ταινίες αυτές θα διαγωνιστούν για το βραβείο της Καλύτερης Ταινίας, μιας κατηγορίας που μετρά συνολικά δέκα υποψηφιότητες, αφού στην κούρσα βρίσκονται επίσης οι ταινίες CODA, Don’t Look Up, Drive My Car, και Nightmare Alley.
